![]() ![]() My husband and daughter thought the shower was awesome. It is not a vacation resort, but I think that's what some of the reviewers are accustomed to. Beds and pillows are VERY comfortable! The new room and hallway decorating is not especially trendy, but it is probably just right for the bulk of the guests, who are business people. We had a perfect location overlooking the Charles River. As you know, the Boston area is VERY expensive and in high demand, so book early! My husband, adult daughter and I were in a room with 2 queen beds and it was very comfortable and smelled clean. Of course all pricing depends on what's going on in town and at the hotel, so there is a wide range on that. During the week I think it would be at least $100 more. Rooms were a bit more expensive, but our stay was on a slow Sunday night, so it didn't break the bank. Narrowing this info down took some doing, but the people on the phones were very helpful in staying with me until we got a confirmation that I could definitely have a renovated room. I didn't book far in advance, so the only floor where they could guarantee us a renovated room was the 7th floor, which is the concierge floor. The hotel seems to be about half-way through a complete renovation. In summary, Blue Highlands is well worth the short commute into into downtown Boston.Because of all the detailed reviews online, I knew it would be important to get a renovated room. Luna is a lovely gentle little dog, not intimidating at all, for people who are not sure about dogs. It was a treat to be offered absolutely excellent coffee too. ![]() I especially loved her homemade apricot oatmeal scones. Marsha provided this recommendation and lots of other helpful suggestions about navigating and exploring Boston in the short time I had available. Newton itself is an interesting place to discover and I enjoyed a delicious Chilean meal at Comedor, a fairly new restaurant nearby in Newton Centre. The home's location in a gracious historic neighbourhood, close to the T, provides an opportunity to imagine you are living in Boston, or staying with friends, if only for a moment. A lovely bathroom with shower was a few steps down the hall, past another, smaller room, which, if booked together with the larger room, would make a perfect set-up for a couple plus a friend or for a couple of friends travelling together. I stayed in the largest, light-filled third floor room furnished with an extremely comfortable, king-sized bed, loveseat and small desk. Very fortunately for me, everything I looked at in the most central areas was booked and I expanded my search and ended up at this truly wonderful bed and breakfast! This is an elegantly and comfortably decorated Victorian home with great character and charm. I was travelling to Boston for work and needed to be in the Back Bay all day, so initially wasn't thinking of staying in Newton.
