![]() ![]() No need to install a streaming video recorder for Mac Now you know how to capture a streaming video on a Mac with hotkeys. With your recordings saved, you can edit them and merge them with other files to create videos as you please. Move the file to the desired storage location from where you will access or share it. A file of the recording will also appear on your desktop if you do not click on the thumbnail. Move and share files – in the bottom-right corner of your screen, a thumbnail of the file will appear after you've finished recording. On the options menu at the bottom, press the Record button to initiate recording. You can also expand or shrink it by dragging the edges. Drag it to the desired section of the screen. A box indicating what will be recorded will appear on the screen. Press the third button – instead of pressing the fourth button, use the third one if you want to record a portion of the screen. To stop recording and automatically save the video, you can click on it. In the menu bar, you will notice an icon indicating the progress of the recording. If you are using multiple monitors, select the one to record. You'll recognize this button by its window-like outline with a circle near the bottom right corner. Press the fourth button from the right – doing so sends the instructions to record the entire screen. These include capturing a still image, a section of the screen, an entire screen, or a window. Press Shift + Cmd + 5 – an onscreen menu will pop up, giving you access to different recording options. Next you can follow the instructions for recording your screen with Screenshot (above), and your webcam image will be included.Here’s how to record a streaming video on your Mac with audio: Resize and position the Quicktime window in front of PowerPoint, where it will not get in the way of any text on the slides (you can move it when recording if necessary). In Powerpoint, set your slide show to run in a Window, not full screen: This will ensure that your webcam image doesn't get hidden behind other windows. In the Quicktime menu, select View - Float on top. You don't need to start Quicktime recording, just have this window on screen when you are using Screenshot to record the screen and your audio. In the Quicktime menu, select File then New Movie Recording.Ī window will appear showing your webcam image. You can find Quicktime through Spotlight search (CMD + space, then type Quicktime). You can then position and reposition the web cam anywhere on your screen and it will float over other windows. If you do use this, configure its preferences with the setting "Close popover when: click on the icon again". Alternatively, some people use a free application called HandMirror, which simply pops-up a small window showing your web cam view. The easiest option is to use the Quicktime app (also built-in and free). However, you can use a different app to put your webcam live image onto the screen as you record, and include it in the recording. Screenshot does not currently have this option. How to include your webcam in the recording Or use Apple iMovie for more sophisticated editing, or the tools built in to your video streaming platform (Microsoft Stream, Echo 360, eStream and Youtube all have basic editing tools). If you set your recording to open in Quicktime, you can use its's basic editing tools. ![]() Screenshot does not include editing tools, so you will need to trim the start and end if necessary. To stop recording, press CMD + CTRL + ESC or click on the recording icon in the menu bar. A recording icon appears in the menu bar at the top-right of your screen. Press the record button when you are ready. the delay between you pressing start and the recording actually starting (essential useful). ![]()
